Just noticed that the BBKA's Contact Our Office page has two (yes two!) non geographic telephone numbers 0871 811 2282 and 0871 811 2337. Say No to 0870 gives the number 024 7669 6679 so make a note of that if you are ringing in on your mobile, a special plan or from abroad.

I think, without checking, that those are the two numbers added to give better service during the swarm season as extra lines (as per email to secretaries). All the other numbers will, of course, still be answered but those are specific.

I always check the 0870 and a similar 0800 app before phoning anywhere :)

I don't suppose I will be calling them from abroad!

A lot of companies are wise to 'say no to0870' and simply divert your call via the number they advertise!

Currys is a perfect example .it is impossible to ring individual stores, should you get hold of an individual store STD number you will find it' " employees only " oh! Yeah!.
Make no mistake, the speedy service dah de dah , is moonshine ,as with doctors surgeries it's a nice little earner ! Hence the increasingly long intro's ,hold times Etc.

So is 0870 the same as 0871?
No, the 0870 is charged up to 10p per minute the 0871 up to 14p per minute (from landlines) 0870 is included in some packages, 0871 never included. From mobiles they almost certainly cost more and 087... are rarely included in any packages.

It's a rather poorly considered move. These premium numbers have caused a stink in quite a few areas, including for some NHS and other government lines. Whenever they are discussed they attract labels such as "rip off" and "hidden charges" http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/0870-say-no They certainly don't enhance anybody's reputation.

Either provide a service or don't. Back door charges through a premium phone line will mean a proportion of the calls either go elsewhere or are not made. That diminishes the reputation of the BBKA and beekeepers in general; not a good strategy.

Just been told "The 0871 numbers are for non members which is why we set up a separate page for Members."

If you want the call answered quicker I'd dial the NGN number.
