my dad just asked me a question, which i couldn't fully answer.
it was;

if you hive of healthy treated bees, but has more on a tendancy to swarm than your other hives - would they be a better strain of bee. due to the fact they build up quicker to a strong colony - hence they swarm. and as long as you take all the swarm controll moves that you don't loose them. are they better or worse than a quieter colony?

More brood tends to mean shorter worker lifespan

Most swarms, in nature, fail.

Quieter bees does not come into it.

Foragers collect the honey crop.

Larvae eat the potential honey crop.

Your choice.

Swarmy bees will collect less.

Why?

In my experience swarmy bees, and they are not necessarily more powerful a colony than non swarmy bees, collect less as they are distracted by the most powerful instinct bar thirst and survival.
