Alive again!

Hi there,

After moving two hives from the south to Surrey in Feb, one is doing very well but we lost one a couple of weeks ago. Unsure why.

The good news is that in the last couple of days it appears to have picked up a new swarm as it is now full of Bees again

They were quite fiesty yesterday when I looked, and couldn't find a queen but they looked busy building comb etc. I couldn't see any eggs as yet.

Is it possible its bees from the hive next door, or do they always go back to their own hive / queen?

Im assuming they will build up the colony over the coming weeks?

Not from the hive next door unoess they swarmed, definitely incomers. You will find other people's bees will favour your apiary rather than the one they emerge from.

Where they both effectively varroa treated last summer/autumn?
It's becoming a common theme that non treatment has often led to losses this spring.

I think you might be right. I read that the VQ's can often be found clinging to the walls or corners of a hive during inspections. And I found quite a few bees doing that in the hive yesterday when I check on them.
Im hoping this is the start of something lovely
