50 years without fondant or actually 50 years without feeding at all?! (i.e. do you feed syrup at all for any reason?)

Great to hear someone has managed to keep bees with minimal (or no) feeding. How often did you get winter losses? I wonder how feeding only their own honey affects the colonies general health?

Also, how much have your treated for varroa, if at all? Made any discoveries or progress in that area?

Some people on here forget what it is like to be a beginner or even a beekeeper with experience that is still learning. I came in this forum some years ago with 25 years experience and have learnt loads from helpful people. It has changed the way I kept bees for the first 25 years, but I got honey then and I still get honey now so I consider neither way to be right or wrong. Maybe just a bit easier!

I believe the word EKE goes back so skeps when it was common add ekes as we would supers today.

I found a wonderful serrated knife in a Lakeland shop which is ideal for slicing fondant as if the material is cold it can be a struggle to slice. Cost some £20 odd but solved my problem for me so well worth it.

Your honest which I like so you didn't deserve the initial criticism. Think most have provided what you need to know - I've done both direct on to frames or over feed holes on top of crown board. Both ways bees got to it.
