A swarm in may is worth a load of hay
A swarm in June is worth a silver spoon
But a swarm in June is not worth a fly

So does this mean a swarm in June is the best one to get as I assume a silver spoon is worth more than a load of hay :hairpull:

If you catch a swarm in JULY let the bug*** s fly!

Goes back to the days of keeping bees in straw and cow poo containers, before moveable frames and Buckfarts etc!

And not forgetting the seasons and weather was different because they did not know about global warming etc etc !

The rest of it was

A swarm in August is worth a bale of sawdust
A swarm in September is a swarm to remember

Not if you have a horse to feed ! Early swarms were considered best as more time to build the combs in the skeps before being robbed in the autumn, it's a swarm in July that's not worth a fly !

'A swarm in May's worth a rick of hay; And a swarm in June's worth a silver spoon; while A swarm in July isn't worth a fly.'

A swarm in December is something to remember.
Unless you're an Aussie, when you'd tuck it up cozy.

Please can I be Poet Laureate?
And claim my sack of sherry.

Better late than never:

There was some bees looking to swarm,
but they only flew out in the warm.
They stayed in for May and also for June
Then left in July in good form... boom boom.

Quite a few had swarms in April last year – what would they be worth?

Rhyming is optional nowadays.
And I thought it was a Butt of Sack? (Which would be a barrel of sherry ... )

Good old Wiki says:

"The holder is also traditionally rewarded with a butt of canary (wine), or sack, approximately 477 litres (105 gallons), of sherry."
