I was really pleased that I had some things to do with the bees this weekend- check fondant, check weight of hive, clear dead bees.

Took about a minute and a half, bored again now. :(

Lol, all these people thinking about bees, I said to HWMBO I miss them buzzing by my head, and watching them come and go. Nothing sadder than a quiet hive * sob *

Ben has the right idea. just listen with your ear to the side of the hive. A single sharp rap with a nuckle on the side will elicit a sharp roar and then die down to the gentle hum.

If you are more adventurous, listen on the front of the hive and if it's warm enough, the bees will let you know . . . quite soon :) :willy_nilly:

* b**tard woodpeckers had got between the chicken wire and hive so I spent a chilly half hour pinning thick black plastic sacks to the crown board as a secondary deterrent.

Checked them again last night, thick plastic and more strategic wrapping of the chicken wire seems to have done the trick.
The tenacious woodpecker had started to drill his way in through the felt covered roof though. He's going to get a shock this morning though as it has been replaced with a shiny new metal one:banghead:

Any chance that your tenacious woodie is really an agent working for Th****s marketing department? :)

Wire it up to a battery.....

Is this any good for woodpeckers?
