Regarding my previous post on Trees being cut down by my neighbour at the bottom of my garden.

I have been given a date when then work will start approximately 20th June.

What is the best way to move the hive can I move it in the evenings 3 feet at a time I have mesured up the distance and it will be 8 moves can this be carried out on successive evenings.

I have made a platform for a wheel barrow so the hive will be placed on the platform and strapped down. I plan to leave the hive on the platform for the move to the new site and it,s return to the original site.

To my less experienced eyes it seems like a good plan.

All you other more experienced beeks out there would it be a good idea to pin a sheet of white paper to the hive front to give the bees a landmark even when the hive has moved, and could the hive move 18" or 24" twice a day, midday and evening? Just looking for feedback.

I moved one in my garden about 6ft in one day.. Several moves of about 1ft each time.

should be no problem with your method. when only one hive is at the site you can sometimes move a little further

if you are moving the hive forward rather than to the side i have found you can move it 10ft a day with no problems, if it in the sole hive

you only get problems passing a landmark the bees use to locate the hive, such as a large tree or shed

.

10 feet is possible to move when day is sunny and warm. Bees have time to find the new site. It takes 2 hours when understand the new site.
It is best to move at midday.

If you drop handfull of bees in front of the hive, those start to inform with glasanov gland, where to go.
