strength of syrup to get them drawing comb?

another note is that 1 to 1 is not the correct ratio, 1LB to 1PINT is (or 2lbs to 1pint) to convert it to metric is (i believe) 2.6kg to 1 liter, there was a very informative article in the BBKA magazine last year although I'm not sure which issue.

    Moving bees

if you get a thick bundle of sticks/leaves and somehow affix them over the entrance when the bees leave they have to re-orientate themselves and you can move them wherever you like.

    Volunteering in scouts- why not?

im an assistant beaver leader, and i have been through all the sections. in my opinion there are alot of reasons people come and go in scouting. the majority, i think say to themselves they dont have the time. i think "forcing" parents to help is detrimental. from an advertising point of view i...

Does weather affect flavour/colour of honey?

i don't think weather affects the honey per say, but i suspect it changes which plants flower when which could affect the honey. just a guess though.

    re-waxing a hat...

IIRC the difference between raw and boiled linseed oil is the raw stuff is pretty much as it comes out of the flax. the boiled stuff is boiled (duh) and has several chemicals added to aid in drying, i've heard several people say boiled linseed oil is not recommended for bee's but i have not seen...

Feeding (Yawn ) Yes I Know

i may be wrong but i think the recipe for feed is 1pint of water to 2lbs of sugar, not 1 part water to 2 parts sugar. there is an article in the august BBKA news p5 where they explain the measures and "merticate" it as well.

Hello I'm a newbie and I'm not sure what is recommended to do for the winter, I've been reading up and some people suggest matchsticks (for ventilation?) some suggest no insulation and some suggest completely insulating them and I'm at a bit of a loss. I currently have 1 national and 1...

wow, well that was fast. a little more detail i've just got two nucs and put one into a brood box and left one in a poly nuc. i'm feeding both because theres plenty of foundation to be drawn out in the brood box and the poly nuc is weaker and id like to build them up for the winter. i'm...
