Varroa Treatment for Queen Rearing Nucs?

Last season I used the Demarre Method to rear my first queens. 10 Nucs successfully came through the winter, however they all have a heavier Varroa load than I would like. I treated the Nucs with VarroaMed once the queen had started laying, once a week for 3 weeks, then each Nuc had another...

    Moving Colonies

To be honest, I didn't bother to lock them in. Stuffed sponge in the entrance for transporting. Put the hives on their stand, removed the sponge and went home - worked a treat.

    Moving Colonies

So, I moved my three Nucs (all three have brood extensions) from my back garden to my new out apiary as planned yesterday. The out apiary is no more than 1 mile away as the bee flies. The weather today was 14 degrees and sunny -pleased to say that no bees returned to the dummy Nucs set up in my...

    Moving Colonies

Hi All, I am hoping to move 3 strong nucs (on 6 frames with space above) to a new apiary site. I have two existing sites with candidates for the move, one more than three miles away from the new site, the other, my back garden is only about 1 mile away (maybe less). It would be so much easier to...

    Beesy frames

The ones I had were a composite material - don't use them in a steam wax extractor!!

    Cleaning Poly Boxes

I started using this last year, https://www.paynesbeefarm.co.uk/poly-maintenance/eversafe-hive-wash-1l-bulk/ saves loads of time, scrap off propolis, clean box with a jet washer and then spray on the 'Eversafe'. Ready to put on the bees in 48 hours. Good value too. Read the blurb on the Paynes...

    Beeswax fabric wraps

Yep, that was my fear! I just sell a few candles and jars of honey at a local farmers market. Definitely not worth the hassle and expense of scientific testing etc.

    Beeswax fabric wraps

Has anyone made beeswax fabric wraps to sell at a farmers market? I know I may get shot down here - do you have to prove your wax is food safe, given that we use chemicals in our fight against Varroa and wax moth, and these wraps are used around food (not meat)? Please share your experience...

    Propolis - price for sale

Hi, I have been asked by several people for propolis, I have loads of the stuff so happy to sell it along with my honey, candles etc. at my local farmers market. Does anyone on the forum sell it, if so how much for? Thanks

    Varroa treatment Queen Rearing Nucs

Thanks Ian, I fully see your argument and am minded to go your way, especially as this beekeeper is unable to think laterally enough to ensure OA vaping is done adequately on a paynes poly nuc. OA vaping will need to be done on more than one occasion for each colony - one poster on this forum...

    Varroa treatment Queen Rearing Nucs

Has anyone vaped a Paynes Nuc. I would imagine they are difficult to seal? Any other ideas?

    Varroa treatment Queen Rearing Nucs

I have 5 poly Nucs, the result of this year's queen rearing. They are on between 3 and 5 frames of brood. Any advice for the best varroa treatment for these small colonies - yes they do need treating. Thanks

    Nitrile long cuff gloves

Try The Glove Store, price is for a box of 100 (not 50). They are very good quality, I wash them with my suit after each inspection - I can get, on average, 3 inspections out of each pair...

    Tradex - Perrycroft Bees

No, it's only the frame that is wood. You must take care not to misrepresent, both you and JKB are making sweeping statements about something you have not seen. You both carry a lot of weight on this forum, with this comes responsibility. Many on here, rightly or wrongly, look to you for advice...

    Tradex - Perrycroft Bees

To be fair the rollers were the very clever bit. My husband and I studied them closely, very impressed with the engineering. Even I could make the wooden bits.

Silly question - why are the 6 frame so much better than the 5 frame Nucs?
