    My mason bees are hatching

Ours always seem to hatch out around mid march, there is lots of forage around here for them. They were mating as soon as they hatched out. The 2 hotels i have are filling up nicely, they are pretty hardy and don't mind the cold and rain.

    My mason bees are hatching

Well the general advice is to keep them in a shed or unheated garage. The garage is unheated and the tubs were next to an outside wall. The tubs are now outside and the houses are back up. There is lots of plants out in bloom for them they just need to find the houses to keep warm at night. I...

    My mason bees are hatching

Just a heads up for everyone who rears solitary bees. My mason bees have started hatching out. I checked the tubs in the garage and there were 7 already out and active. I've put the tubs outside now in a box and put the hives back up to start again for this year. Good luck for the new season.

    Is the hive queenless

Yes, You give them a frame with eggs and young lava so they can make queens if they need too. If they've been queenless for a long time they might have laying workers or not have any young bees left who can look after the brood.

    Newspaper for joining two hives

Isn't it best to shake out laying worker colonys as they can kill queens in QRC's if you try to unite them?

    What Extractor to buy?

Thanks for all the replies so far, i really appreciate the info. I have problems with my lungs so a manual extractor isnt an option sadly, and i can imagine extracting 50+ frames manually 2-4 at a time would be hell. I'd rather pay more now for something steel parts than deal with plastic, i...
