    Honey dryer advice please

Part of the problem with a home made solution is space. The ones that are for sale (for small quantities like mine) are quite compact and fast. The extracting room is already crammed! The home made ones seem to need to take up space for several days. I think 50-70kg which in spring may be every...

    Honey dryer advice please

I am looking at buying a honey dryer, about 50-80kg. I see Abelo have a Lyson one that looks quite good. Has anyone got one? How to they compare to the Konigin and Swienty ones? Any others? What are your experiences of these? I've never had one before but have had a lot of high moisture content...

    Theft prevention

Has anyone used Abelo's hive tracking device or can you recommend another one? Are they any good? Obviously it would need to have a movement alert. (We have some bees on a site which is close to a road and visible. It was meant to be just for the osr but thinking of keeping the site on for longer.)

Shook swarms - all bees, every spring

Just got BBKA News - in the q&a section, Gareth Morgan says he shook-swarms all his colonies in spring. Who else does this? Some people say they only do it to weak and sick colonies and others only strong ones. What are your views?

    Best pollen patties?

We have so far been avoiding the "fondant-with-a-bit-of-protein" types and just using the high protein ones. We find that we can very accurately correlate the brood areas with where the bees are eating the patties. This seems to indicate that they are using it. In fact it is a very good...

    Best pollen patties?

I can't get YouTube right now. Reception is dreadful. Can you summarise what it says? Thanks!!!

    Best pollen patties?

Yes at least that. They overwinter much better with plenty in, and it's a good sign generally, I think.

    Best pollen patties?

Thanks! - Why? Any particular reason?

    Best pollen patties?

Anyone have any ideas about which commercial patties (pollen substitutes) are best? Our bees have plenty of stores so don't need feeding but they are short of pollen. I've been browsing the main sellers and some of the products on offer seem to be really low on protein or don't even tell you...

    Where to sell wax

We are getting more than we need to exchange, really. Already selling some to other local beekeepers at cost.

    Where to sell wax

Anyone know where to get a decent price for good cappings wax? Other than trying to sell small bits on eBay, I mean. Thornes and co seem to not differentiate and will pay the same price for anything. The wax we were given from conversion this year was really dark and the stuff we took in was...

    Bubbles in honey

Forget that - I'll just stick the jars in it! 😂

    Bubbles in honey

I'd be interested to know more about this project and what they will be trying.

    Bubbles in honey

This (see link) suggests something a little less focussed than lithotripsy but I think I'll do some more reading first Ultrasonic Honey Processing

    Bubbles in honey

Okay - I found the washing machine, and the spin setting, and the power switch! 😂 But the thing didn't vibrate enough to make any difference, even to a jar of recently bottled runny. 😥 Still very interested in ultrasonics.

    Bubbles in honey

I've read something that says ultrasonic is better than applying heat to liquify honey. Has anyone tried it?

    Bubbles in honey

This was meant to be a serious question not an opportunity for male beeks to admit they don't know how to operate a washing machine 😂

    Bubbles in honey

Has anyone tried clearing bubbles from soft set honey with an ultrasonic cleaner? Wondering if it's worth a try. Or any other ideas? Just bottled a batch yesterday and it was a bit too cold for it - a lot of them have a little bit of air in them from the bottling machine. Otherwise it's really...
