    Clipped queen swarm

Thanks all - In future I'll use a selected sealed QC and leave a frame of food plus 2 to 3 brood frames in the original site and then move all the other brood frames and food into the Nuc/box on the new site with a QC in whatever form. What could possibly go wrong...

    This is what I've done.

    Clipped queen swarm

    It was uncapped

    Clipped queen swarm

Not sure I understand your "or" question. The one in the original site which obviously has the flyers coming back, has bees and stores plus a QC. This seems odd I cannot get a common response. Isn't a lost clipped a queen common occurrence? Clipping the queen ensures not losing the flying bees...

    Clipped queen swarm

Well noted...So what is the best course of action with a hive housing newly returned swarm brigade after a failed attempt with a clipped queen?

    Clipped queen swarm

Bulging hive that I missed 2 queen cells swarmed. Bees came back, lost clipped queen. The colony will still have "swarm fever". So I create a second box about 3 feet away and transfer all brood, some food into the box at new site and shake bees in. One queen cell. At old site, I now have one...

    Droning on

20 hives here in SW London. Noticing a lot of drones flying at the moment from a number of colonies, not just one or two corner cases. Anyone else seeing the same thing?

    Runny honey

Ive warmed some honey at about 39 deg C to recrystalise it but left it heated for about 2.5 days. After cooling it seems now far too runny, even watery at the top of the bucket contents. Any explanation and suggestions?

    Crystallised!

Hi...I took a decent autumn crop off 2 weeks ago before vaping and feeding the colonies. I had to go away and left the boxes ready for spinning - Came back and I have a large collection of sherbet and toffee in the frames! Whoops....Another lesson learned - Ivy's honey sweet shop! I was going...

    Best honey warmer

Got mine...and yes agree 18 hours does it, maybe a wee bit less but probably because my sample honey bucket was only "just crystallised." Good rule of thumb though. And a 20 L bucket fits nicely inside with adequate water, even with a pourer-nozzle fitted. Thanks for the recommendation.

    Autumn hive going gangbusters

Yes...decent amount of ivy coming in here. But there's beans, wisteria and whatever else in the mild faux-spring conditions.

    Autumn hive going gangbusters

Interesting. So whats the rule of thumb with regards, to when to super and not to super at this time of year. I did decide to nadir a drawn super given their status.

    Autumn hive going gangbusters

This is a new one. Single brood box, no super as was result of a split in late July, queen emergence and mating early August. Pre-treatment, pre-feed inspection: Absolutely bursting with bees, boiling over on crown board removal. Checked all frames and 9 out of 11 are flat with brood, most...

    Best honey warmer

The OP splutters at the mention of 4 grand... I bought the cheap "SilverCrest"....its not here yet. Do you just add the honey and then empty it through the tap? What temp and for how long?

Thanks Dani - whats the search term?

    Best honey warmer

After a bumper crop and great summer sales, I still have large stocks of honey in both jars and buckets. Some of it is crystallising now. What would recommend as a commercial solutions ie not home made, as I am time limited. I have seen a cabinet from Thornes at around £300 and also an element...

Complete recovery of laying working colony

Appreciate the sentiment, though "dead-end" can't be the correct term. A nut still has function even after it has met the sledge hammer. More importantly there is deep meaning in their interaction.

I enjoyed working the solution. I hope it helps others beginners.

Complete recovery of laying working colony

Just a quick log for my method of fixing colonies which had developed laying-workers. I have successfully nursed back two colonies from frames of drone brood to healthy laying queens with lovely brood patterns. Note: There is nothing novel here except the "menu" and "recipe". Many have used...
