    After fondant

    For one hive a fortnight is about right. For another a month, for another they have not touched it....But then they have a super under brood and thus enough stores or they are goners!!!! Yikes!bee-smillie

    Good book for beginners - recommendations please.

    Welcome May I suggest seek out local beekeeping association. No need to be a full member till have bees but should make some good contacts, equipment at auction and some hands on training as well, (hopefully!!). Good luck.

    Newcastle Honey For Sale

    I sold my first batch this year for £3 for 8oz and £5 for 1lb. I shall concentrate on 8oz jars as margin is better. I will not be so generous to friends and family as I was in my excitement at getting any honey in my first year!!!

    RAB Excellent post full of info - would you recommend oil or gas for central heating hives? (or could a gas blowtorch and old engine oil be used together!!!).

    windy weather

    Quite scarry here as wind rocking car on drive. Fence panels can FLY!!! Been to check hives and lob another paving slab on. Wind speed gusting at 90 mph. trees down blocking roads and yet bees still greeted me when I approached a hive.

    Legless on New Year's Day

    I am not very good at DIY- unless only tool needed is a hammer!! However have been able to build several wooden hive stands, from Dave Cushman's template on his website, that gives my hives a sturdy platform and gives a comfortable height to work from.

    Pollen identification?

    I brought one from F.P. It cost me £1.99 and £0.50 postage. As PH says not an exact match but very useful to carry around hives for quick reference.
