Mike Palmer, Queen rearing. National honey show.

Very interesting. Thanks. Really don't undertand why the bees don't fight. Is it his bees or do other also find this?

    selling your honey

Ta. Only scrimmed through leaflet. Thought you were quoting from elsewhere. Seems fairly clear then. This always concerns me with the increasing litigation culture.

    Where are you quoting from?

bees flying could this spell disaster

Thanks. The sublimation does not worry me but it just the expense of another piece of equipment. Will have to stick to trickle method for time being.

bees flying could this spell disaster

Yes Doug, was just avoiding that debate, as many seem to have the notion that trickling does no harm to the bees. Hivemaker, I take it then that your experience is that oxalic acid does harm the bees. Could you elaborate further please?

How far do you travel to visit your hives ?

How on earth do you manage hives that are 950 miles away?

    Help with oxalic acid

If you use anhydride, it does not harm. Syrup is just stronger. It is anhydrous. I am pretty sure we are all using the hydrated form so all of this really does not matter.

    Help with oxalic acid

I agree but was just trying to clarify the difference for people.

    Help with oxalic acid

It will affect the final concentration as the molecular weight is different. If you weigh out same number of grams of oxalic acid anhydrous it will contain a different number of molecules or mole of the actual oxalic acid (C2O4H2) than if you weigh out same mass of oxalic acid dihydrate...

    Help with oxalic acid

Is that the anhydride or dihydride? You mean anhydrous or hydrated. It is the hydrated form. Anhydrous means no water of crystalisation. Anhydride is something else altogether.

Mike Palmer talk at the National honey show.

Interesting but it strikes me as strange that somebody flies over from America or Canada (not sure which) to talk on Sustainability and his talk basically encourages you to make some nuc up to use to boast your set up for next year. Or am I missing something?

    The Weather & Floods

Yes I can see the highest part Kent from the back window but its on the Surrey border. Most other part I thought were pretty lowland but don't venture out further into Kent much.

    The Weather & Floods

That must be one of the highest places in Kent.

Thornes, Budget hives and delivery times.

Yes but maybe he will be passing when the shop is not open or is too tired to go looking for hives after a long journey. I certainly would not like trying to find the Windsor Thornes shop after a long journey (or short journey for that matter).

Thornes, Budget hives and delivery times.

Rather depends where in London he is going surely. That part of the M25 can be a nightmare.

    Bees ignoring the rule book!

That makes sense and explains why there were bees around one of my hives that looked lost and trying to get in through the back of the hive.
