    Should I move my bees?

If it knocks them down then it shouldnt be a problem. It's only if they get to fly back to the hive and tell their chums where to go robbing that there is a problem!

    Queen introduction

I have been through a colony three times, signs of eggs and drone brood, loads of drones. It was the half of an Artificial Swarm with the queen cells I had thought that I had laying workers so was going to shake them out and put some open brood in to see whether I could retrieve the situation...

    Amount of swarms

One from the hedge near my hives. No QC in my hives and the bees are more yellow, so dont think that they are mine.

Is it safe to let the queen out?

The bees have clearly sensed my impatience and are having none of it! Still clustered around the queen's cage.

Is it safe to let the queen out?

Thanks Finny et al. I am impatient, but the bees and caged queen have been in the nuc for two nights and a day, so getting on for 36 hours, no eggs in the nuc, just emerging brood. The queen was pretty quiet this morning - I thought that she had died at first - only one attendant bee, but she...

    does honey ever

It is a concentrated sugar solution and will kill any bacteria that get into it, by essentially sucking all of the water out of the bacteria through it's cell membrane. It's why the bees concentrate the nectar into honey.

Is it safe to let the queen out?

Yes, she has been sealed in the nuc with the bees on the frame of emerging brood for 24 hours.

Is it safe to let the queen out?

I have bought a couple of new queens. To install them, I have put one in a mating nuc with a handful of bees. The other I have put into a nuc with a single frame of emerging brood and the covering bees. I put her in with the bees 24 hours ago and closed them up. The queen is in a cage on...

    OSR Honey Setting Time

I extracted some on Saturday afternoon before a trip down to cornwall. Extracted and blended with a quarter of a bucket of seed honey from last year. I filled a few jars and brought them down for family. The jars I brought down had set by Monday night. I left the rest of the honey at home to...

    When to expect first honey

I would expect that if you can stop them swarming, you should be good for a crop this year. That first jar of honey is a real treat!

    Queen rearing gone wrong again?

If only, the issue here is the lack of emergence. Thanks for the advice fellas. I have not kept the temperature right and humidity too low. I have a few roller cages so should have stuffed them back in the hive. I will know better next time. And thank you Beefriendly, I will not trip over my...

    Queen rearing gone wrong again?

Any help appreciated, I found some queen cells and did an AS, tore down the queencells and put some some grafted cups in to replace the queencells I destroyed. My first attempt at grafting failed completely 0 from 19 !! I then put in another frame of eggs (about 14 days ago) and they drew 3...

First swarm captured - Woo hoo!

Possibly! I checked the hives this weekend there were no queen cells in evidence in my hives but I have possibly missed one though.

First swarm captured - Woo hoo!

I have a couple of hives in the garden but came back this afternoon to a mass of bees buzzing around the hedge with a cluster at the top of the hedge. I have shaken the bees into an empty nuc box and put a frame of brood into the box, the rest of the bees have moved into the nuc so I am feeling...
