    Laying worker

Thanks for replies. As there is a limited amount of workers I think it could be due to that and queen just getting going and over laying an already laid area. Unfortunately the apiary is a fair distance away so I will leave until next week and see what the brood looks like. If brood looks Ok...

    Laying worker

Thanks for your quick reply Redwood. I guess from your question that it is not always a definite laying worker. Some more information about my reason for asking my question. I am looking after a few hives and nucs for a friend who is away for a couple of weeks. Looked at one weak nuc...

How do winter bees live longer?

Nay. Other peoples children keep you young. You can't give your own back at the end of the day.

How do winter bees live longer?

Lower metabolic rate therefore less oxygen consumption and so less oxygen free radical production which are damaging to biomolecules so leads to quicker death.

    Split extractor.

Thanks for clarifying that. There was me going to use it to store custard. THe fibre class would be on the outside and can be sealed. Still might not be your best option but just a suggestion worthy of investigating

    Pollen mites

I just got some comb to set up a brood box to add to one hive. There is some powdery stuff in a few cells. Guessed these were pollen mites so looked at it under the microscope. It was crawling with them. My question is can I use this comb if I wash out the affected cells?

    raw honey

Simply asking a question in a reasonable manner. Your response seems over the top. I don't simply accept everything people write and like to know what their reasoning is so that I can make my own mind up. I have read your reference and have decided what I think. Which is what you might call a...
