i had a large swarm, now its down to frame and a half of bees no queen for 4 weeks.

Thanks heather as there are only a small amount of bee' s there ill save her in the morning and drop a frame of bee's in with her and do a shook swarm.

Hi every one! I have lost a v Queen on her mating flight, been over 4 weeks so pop a queen cell in the swarm, now a have a new v queen running around but there are a lot of capped drone cells about should i remove all of these cells?? as there may be a drone layer???

but my nucs takes upto 7 frames.

how big is the swarm prime or cast, I use a nuc until queen is mated and laying then move in to a brood then feed.

Also where i live there is alot of oil seed rape in flower so i dont know if thats got any thing to do with it?

A good tip is keep an eye out on warm days because if the swarm comes and does not like what you have to offer then you can follow it until it hangs up.

alynewbee, I had the hive out for over 4 weeks so its a waiting game. every few days ive put a few drops off lemon grass oil in there just to top it up, on warm days i had around 30 vister then about 3 days before the swarm around 100, also i have 4 hives out in different places which helps.

Tom, I had 3 frames of really old black foundation in the middle of the box then pack the rest of the box out with new frames and wax then use lemon grass oil on the tops of the frames and left in view on top of my shed so i could keep an eye on it. hope that helps!!

wait and the bees shall come!!!! I was sitting outside enjoying the sun when a cloud of the bees came over head and landed by my bait hive after a very long wait. Any one have any ideas what to do next???? check for queen??? or new frames???
