    Change in temperament?

If it is your first inspection in a while it may take a while to get in to it although by the sounds of it they were quite "jumpy". Try using a clean light coloured tea towel over the top of the frames and just roll it back as you inspect. A second tea towel could be used to cover the already...

    Roofs again (sorry!)

Otis, what way have you put the hive together? You have planks that make up the "hive" body, which seem to be screwed together overlapping. How have you secured one layer of planks to the layer above? Is there a strip of wood inside the hive to screw the planks to?

    Early build up

Slugs seem to be building up nicely in my garden. Loads of them under ports and stones. We moved in 14 months ago (it is rented) and it is an absolute haven for slugs, very destructive!!

    Qx or no Qx?

The weather over here hasn't been THAT warm if warm at all recently. I haven't opened any of my hives yet (other than roof off and heft) My question is, has it been warm enough to open up where you are, and if so was there brood on many frames. If not warm enough I doubt the queen would be at...

    Extra queens...what do you do?

So far i have knocked down, might be tempted this year to fire up an apidea to get a spare queen but I doubt it! My worry (rightly or wrongly) is that if they are cells from a colony with swarm preparations I would be selecting for "swarminess"

Yes I have used one and yes they got the data back. It is not guaranteed depending on the problem with the disk but is doable.

    trailer

I have towed trailers all over the UK and never had any problems. I would say the one thing that is probably most likely to raise your profile if if your load is bouncing out of the trailer. Making sure things are tied down is probably the most important day to day procedure. I also always check...

Sorry you lost them. Hopefully your stronger hive you want to breed from gives you hardier stock!

oh dear! insecticide on my hives

It might be worthwhile investigating what effect heat might have on the chemical, a blow torch may be a way of breaking down the chemical. But really sounds you have a free licence to buy a load more stuff for one of the conventions or just replace what was maligned with a bit extra fror interest!!
