BS Honey Bees New Poly Hive - Best in Class?

I was looking forward to this and first impressions are good. Looks like a serious alternative to the Abelo v1; better for the fact that it doesn't have those silly holes in the brood box and the crown board looks particularly useful. Pros Actually is national standard Plastic mating faces...

What is happening to our queens

Actually getting my wires crossed, it was the talk by Juliana Rangel. She has done different studies on this, one being: Exposure to pesticides during development negatively affects honey bee (Apis mellifera) drone sperm viability Jeff's talk was the Impact of Pesticides on Bees which he...

What is happening to our queens

    2) I believe a queen has an unlimited ability to produce eggs however if a queen is poorly mated or older the the greater chance is that she would run out of sperm; in which case they will continue to lay unfertilized eggs. 3) Jeff Pettis gave a lecture a few weeks ago for the UBKA; it was...

Petition parliament ban on honey bee imports

The traces system is actually still applicable to in Northern Ireland; before this year I wasn't overly familiar with it but January proved to be a crash course in customs procedures for myself and many others here. Applicable to things like potatoes and farm machinery, two important imports to...

Petition parliament ban on honey bee imports

That was always the case; at least when buying Queens outside the UK even pre-brexit, they always came with a health cert that would have been issued by that countries competent authority. I'm certain packages would have been no different.

    Paradise or abelo poly national.

Yes, not only top bee space but top dollar as well; £50 premium over the normal painted hive. These little ash forth feeder adapters seem like a neat idea at £1 tho, wish I didn't block my old crown boards now. Mini Ashforth Feeder Adapter - Welcome to Abelo's Beekeeping Supplies

    Poly painting

The Paynes nucs in particular (bad batch?) had a problem not so long ago in the unpainted nucs; syrup would seep through the material and attracted wasps which then chewed the poly on the outside of the nuc. The Paynes and Maisimore nucs are 100g/ltr. The BS nuc is 120g/ltr. Another advantage...

    Nucs

Seems they have it listed on the website (although currently no stock), made of aluminium and must be used in conjunction with a new clear crown board - so could be a suitable nuc for the OP. Available as an upgrade pack: Poly Nuc Upgrade Pack (Standard & 14x12)

    Paradise or abelo poly national.

Abelo usually knock 10% off the poly hives in the sales so the unpainted would only be £112.50. It might be possible if you spoke to Abelo and were taking quite a few hives that they might do an even better deal closing the gap further on the paradise.
