    Commercial members usernames

Perhaps everyone should have a username that fully and accurately reflects their occupation? In which case, I may have to change one part of mine (I'll let you guess which part).

    Preparing for winter question

Nor here - other than an occasional hefty tot of Armagnac when it is really cold (used internally by the beekeeper, of course!).

    Frame sizes

Could it be because supers are smaller than brood boxes??;)

    Irritable Bees

:iagree: My own (admittedly limited) experience is that at this time of year, when preserving stores for the winter is crucial and they are beginning to shift into winter mode (or not??!!), is a time when irritable bee syndrome becomes more pronounced.

    Confused of wisbech

Find your local beekeeping group, make contact with them and seek their advice. They will almost certainly have an apiary which you could have a look at. You will anyway find your local group invaluable, since you would be very well advised to attend a course (most groups can point you in the...

Thank you bees for another sleepless night

As a relatively new (third year) beekeeper myself, I can understand the insomnia. But I have tended this year to become a little more robust. There is no way I am going to disturb my bees at 3 or 4 or even 5 in the morning, so I do not let them keep me awake (plenty of other things -...

What made you take up bee keeping ?

Visited the honey tent at the Royal Cornwall Show a few years ago, and chatted to a fascinating gentleman who assured me that beekeeping was straightforward, inexpensive, took little effort and even less time. Seemed to be an ideal way to give the current Lady DD something to keep her amused in...

Is a super full of honey worth it?

An 11 frame super full of honey - probably 25lb as a minimum. £5 or so per lb. It would certainly be worth my while putting the current Lady DD to work with the extractor!

A letter in the week end Telegraph

As I down my third pink gin of the day, it occurs to me that someone once told me (I am sure they were mistaken) that all alcoholic beverages were toxic, too. Just to be on the safe side, I have determined never again to eat honey produced by inebriated bees.

Spring Convention: how important is it to you?

I rarely travel to England these days - and if I do I like to think that it is for something far more exciting that the Spring Convention.

    Price for honey

My neighbourhood butcher is selling local honey (not mine, I am afraid) for £6.99/lb.

    Which estate car?

Can't say I have ever felt the need for an estate (car, that is!). The boot of the Rolls is reasonably capacious.

    Sidr Honey

I ate more than my fair share of sidr honey when I lived in Yemen in the late 90s. Have to say that it was absolutely delicious. Indeed, it was better than any honey I have tried since (other than that produced by my own bees, of course!).

    cleaning empty supers

Put the crown board under the super. They should then take the stores down to the brood box - assuming there is room there?

    Bees boost morale

I'm still new to beeking myself, and I have never used a WBC hive in anger. But is it normal to fill the brood box with foundationless frames?

    Signs of Autumn

    1. A skein of some forty geese flying south (seen this morning).

    users

With thread titles such as: "A great day for mating" "Laying Workers" "Super manipulation" Is it any wonder that the forum attracts large numbers of casual (and probably in the event disappointed) visitors?

    Honey £16 per lb

That's the very least I would expect Cornish honey to sell for! (Note to self, try to convince bees to produce some this year).
