bees have just killed my chickens?

That's dreadful! I asked about keeping chickens close to bees at my beek course (because we have chickens & ducks) and was told they are fine to be kept together?!! I'm worried now........ It must have been horrible to watch :( Poor things.

    First inspection

Hello and welcome! :) I was nervous the first few times I opened my hives, I think this is normal? (I still get very excited when I open my hives, its a real buzz -don't know if that wears off tho the more you do it?) Have you done a Beekeeping course anywhere? (because I think that gives you...

BBKA holds old dears to ransom!

Rae, I am only a very newbee, but from my current point of view, more 'natural' beekeeping means you limit your inspections to when you think they are necessary, (rather than checking every 8 days for example) and where there are natural alternatives to problems (eg Thymol, icing sugar) you use...

BBKA holds old dears to ransom!

I thought that Heidi's post was non confrontational and interesting, I honestly can't see where she has portrayed anyone as the 'enemy'of bees?! Perhaps some beeks are a tad sensitive/defensive on the subject of 'natural' beekeeping? I'm reading a 'Background to Beekeeping' by Allan C Waine at...

BBKA holds old dears to ransom!

Obviously my knowledge is very limited as I have just started keeping bees, but one of the reasons I love this forum is because of the diverse range of advice and opinions given on here. Anyone starting out can find info on practically anything.... and if they can't find it they can ask, which...

BBKA holds old dears to ransom!

I don't think anyone recommends we do nothing about varroa, not even the 'natural' beeks?

BBKA holds old dears to ransom!

Make honey not war! I think its good to look at things from lots of different angles... it seems silly to take sides and snipe at each other just because someone does something a bit differently to the way you do it yourself. Surely theres enough room in the beekeeping craft for everyone, not...

    School project pics

Our local secondary school has a couple of hives, in fact it's where I did my beek course and practicals! I think as long as you are a member of the BBKA you are covered for public liabilty insurance, so would be fine setting up in a schools grounds? (but Im new to all this, so you would need...
