    Api-bioxal Oxalic Treatment

The acid vapour mask H&S advice comes from the U of Sussex H&S man - he's not part of LASI, but Hasan should be able to get you contact details (sorry, I didn't write down his name. Dr anyway and particularly well genned up on the medical aspects). His point is that, after sublimation, the tiny...

    Patteson's jar sale

I'd be quite grateful if you could refrain from calling me a dork for merely asking you to provide some (any) evidence to support your assertions. I linked to the ONLY price that Compak publish for their 8oz hex jars. Your claim now seems to be that you can get a price almost (but not quite)...

    Patteson's jar sale

Still waiting for you to post a link to substantiate your assertion that For 8oz hex jars the Compak "normal" price is 48p/jar after BBKA discount (based on buying 108 jars). Whereas for the same jar style on Patteson's offer the price is 17.3p/jar (based on buying 100). Both with lids, vat...

    8oz Honey Sales

I think runny honey looks very good in hex jars. I have one shop that wants 12oz only, and the other one wants 1lb (sorry not hez) and 8oz ... I have a mind to offer ONLY 8oz jars when I'm selling direct, and its just me selling. Simplifying the "selling proposition". But I'm doing an event...

Queen cell found - what to do?

I've seen that myself, but there's nothing posted to indicate that THIS Q is newly introduced ... ! :)

Queen cell found - what to do?

1/ Brood normally reduces through Autumn (but not necessarily smoothly.) 2/ QC is very likely supercedure. See the Welsh QC booklet http://beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28463 You could let it run, or to hedge your bets, let it run but take out old Q with a small nuc to preserve her...

    Maisie's new Poly Hive

They are also needed to get the required strength from the poly material. You do have to be more careful. And, reassembling a tall stack of heavy supers with poor handholds as the wasps dive in, there may be casualties as one tries to hurry an awkward job. Better handholds would make the job...

I'm sorry but repeated misinformation does need to be corrected. :facts:

    Patteson's jar sale

Sorry but that really is utter tosh - if you actually mean Compak rather than the computer brand Compaq. Perhaps you didn't spot that this price refers to 8oz Hex jars. (Though it has been stated repeatedly on this tread ...) NOT for 'standard' jars. No point in comparing the prices of apples...

    Maisie's new Poly Hive

The boxes are the same 500x500 dimension as Paynes and BHS, so they should interoperate nicely. Which means they must compete for sales. I like the look of the handholds, and their being only on the (fatter) 'rail' walls of the box (like a wooden box). Screwing together the 4 bits to make...

    Api-bioxal Oxalic Treatment

That's pretty much what it looks like -- but for trickling it is 500ml of 1:1 (metric!) syrup, not water. Now 35g into 500ml of syrup is rather stronger than we are used to using ... (45g into a litre of syrup) so ... I'm guessing, but this looks more like the old Italian 4.5% than the 3.2% we...

    Patteson's jar sale

For 8oz hex jars, with lids, inc vat and delivery, these are very good prices indeed, for quantities of 100 to 500. Buy 500 and the price goes down to 15.22p/jar, with lids, vat and delivery included. http://www.jarsandbottles-store.co.uk/index.php/special-glass-range/8oz-hexagonal-jar.html...

    Api-bioxal Oxalic Treatment

Well done that man (and his daughter!) Vaporising Api-Bioxal was mentioned from the floor and not properly responded to from the Inspectorate. I believe Api-Bioxal is approved in Italy, and as such can be legally used today - but (like Amitraz/Apivar) that would require a vet's prescription...

    MOULDY roof

Out and away with the air change through the OMF, rather than up until it condenses on the underside of the roof metal which is essentially at outside temperature.

    MOULDY roof

Only when the walls get so cold as to be below the current dew point. And anyway, that isn't a problem as any condensation can simply drain down the sides and out through the OMF. Two things are problematic. Condensation on the coverboard that can drip onto the clustered bees and...

    Which gloves to buy?

Currently my branch of Lidl has their disposable latex gloves. £5/box of 100 Cuffs are long enough to roll over my beesuit cuffs. Look for the size guide on the side of the box. I like them. If you have a nearby branch, well worth a try. Their washing up gloves (2 pairs for £1) are also...

    unfinished supers ?

Not what I had understood. Mesh floors were introduced to the UK before varroa as a better solution to dampness and humidity problems, improving colony health. Sure, with the addition of a temporary tray, the possibility exists for varroa monitoring - but that wasn't the original idea...

    MOULDY roof

Even a no-hole plywood coverboard will not stop water vapour passing through. A nice slab of Celotex provides both insulation and a vapour barrier to prevent the vapour reaching the cold roof metal.

    winter project

:iagree: Don't waste time doing woodwork until you know what actually matters. Both to the bees and to you. The autumn sales are going to start in a few weeks, and decent quality flatpacks can be obtained very reasonably. However, the hives can be obtained very very much more quickly than...
