    Honey price 2024

I do a bit and use postal boxes which can take 2 12oz jars. This is mostly to pple who have bought at the gate while on holiday here or when I do Xmas gift sets.

    Honey price 2024

I saw your advert on Facebook Dani, sorry to hear about the time wasters! I still have a few buckets of spring and summer, should see me through to the summer if sales stay steady. Gonna start selling online to increase sales or maybe do less honey and more nucs/queens!

    Honey price 2024

My sales definitely went down at the gate last summer with everyone feeling the pinch and less tourists. Winter has been steady with a few locals. I am also seeing some new 'kids on the block' also supplying 1 of my stockists which has impacted sales. However, they are still happy to pay what I...

    Honey price 2024

I thought I would get in early with this one, just in case I get some surplus to sell. I feel I have reached the 'at the gate' cap price for my area at £6 for 12oz although my stockists don't seem to struggle to sell it at £7 50-£8 to visitors and locals. Last year I froze prices at the gate...

    Spring treatment?

Mine are done end of December usually and start again in June when hives are at their strongest.

    Spring treatment?

I guess at this time of the year testing is a bit challenging other than by giving a OS blast and checking the drops?

    Pure Amm, the value

I am just grabbing my popcorn, my favourite drink, sit back and watch the thread unfolding.....😂

How can I deal with this?

    good thinking, thanks Dani.

How can I deal with this?

Just starting this thread again. Finished my last extraction of the year and my last 2 40lbs buckets have slightly higher moisture content. One is 20% and the other one 22%. The latter will be sold as baker's honey and not sure if I gamble and keep the 20% or not.

Is this V. Velutina in S France?

Yes, my parents garden is full of them! I have made them some trap to put out in the spring when the females become active again.

    Gasvap alternative

It just doesn't do it for me, definitely a lot less vapour compared to the first couple of hives. I also get the same issues with the blowtorch, automatic lighter doesn't work anymore so need to use a lighter and thick heatproof gloves to handle the lot.

    Gasvap alternative

It boils off but evaporates rather than sublimate. I find that you don't get the full amount and to be honest, not sure how well it works in that state.

    Gasvap alternative

I find it works for 2-3 hives than it overheat getting the OA to boil rather than sublimate. @Ian123 yes I saw that and have a few DeWalt tools and batteries. Thanks @Amari . I am waiting for a price from the UK supplier but off the the homeland next week and may bring one back if there is a...

    Gasvap alternative

I think I have reached my limits with gasvap, especially the inability to control temperature. Any battery powered alternative and slightly cheaper than varrox? Has anyone tried the OXALIKA Pro made in Italy?

    Apibioxal rip-off

Well, we already knew it was simply a rip-off but Patrick (Bee Equipment) has laid into them publicly (newsletter) for trying to fix the price of it!

    Summer harvest?

of course they have. I always overwinter on single brood so they have plenty for the moment and will get winter feed in mid-end Spetember as I don't want to restrict queen laying as yet.

    Summer harvest?

Well, I think I have done better than last year. I am currently 30kg short of equalling last year's crop and still got 20 supers to extract. They have all been removed so no chance of the bees eating through them.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

So frustrating, I am just working on getting my bees in the best state possible so they can make it through the winter and ready for another far better year. I have actually harvested more than last year, thanks to the spring crop

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Released 4 queens from from their push in cages, 3 of the nucs were fine, 4th one had been completely robbed with hardly any bees left to tend the brood. Had to restart this nuc and put the queen under the cage on a new frame of emerging brood. That nuc has now been moved to my garden.
