    Recycling brood wax?

I think you are right ... beeswax blocks can still be found with people selling them for a pound an ounce - but I think it's a tremendously undervalued product ... and they are wrong. Wax blocks are selling on Etsy (with acknowledged no providence - so probably foreign wax) for £4.60 to £5.20...

    Recycling brood wax?

No .. I sell polish, wax blocks and woodturners polish. The candle business is saturated with people selling all sorts of candles - at ridiculous prices - the time to make them, the amount of wax they consume .. not worth the candle (Sorry !) to me. I make a few tea lights for friends and...

I've not been made aware by my associaton that posters are available - we had a lengthy talk on the AH at one of the association meetings - led by our AH coordinator - distribution of posters was never mentioned. So, if the BBKA have done it - the distribution in our association has been done...

    Recycling brood wax?

You can melt it down - you don't get masses of wax from them but I just finished processing abour 20 or so brood frames that were really dark and I got about a pound of wax (They were my foundationless frames - you should get a better return on those with foundation). I sell beeswax blocks at...

    Labels

Try Stikaroo ... Mikey is very helpful - he does all my labels (honey, jam and preserves) - he will work with your digital photos and incorporate whatever text you want - he will do small runs as well - you won't need to buy thousands. He does either paper or waterproof vinyl - I use the...

    Jar Prices 2024.

Freeman and Harding usually do a good deal for collection at the NHS but I've not heard anything from them yet. I like their beekeeper packs that come shrinkwrapped, in trays, with the lids on...

Down here in the front line I think a lot of work has been done educating those people that are likely to come into contact with the AH .. posters with a clear picture of what it looks like have been put up in places like allotments and public notice boards in places that attract nature lovers...

God I love growing our own

I picked another bowl of my blight free tomatoes .. still very little sign of any browning on these plants and the fruit is still ripening but there's still quite a few good size green ones left so .. living in hope. I'll definitely be harvesting some seed from them again this year ... best...

Yes ..I think the colder and wetter winters further North would, hopefully, detract from them being able to overwinter easily and also become established.

Hunters - or at least active observation, in a vicinity, is a pre-requisite of the existing organisation .. exterminators ? From everything I have heard this is a pretty exacting and somewhat dangerous procedure so I'd suggest leaving the nest destruction to those trained and equipped people who...

WELL .. By all accounts France didn't do a lot .. at least here there is Asian Hornet Watch and lots of us in the front line who know what to look out for. DEFRA do react quickly to any sightings and I believe this nest was the result of a sighting. We are clearly worried down here on the...

    Buying kit in sales

Thornes normally have a lorry in the car park - as do some of the jar suppliers - so, no, you won't have to pay to get into the show.

Yes .. we heard they had found one .. bit too close for comfort but hardly surprising with the amount of sea traffic between Southampton and France and the Channel Islands.

Unsure if I’ve done the right thing

It's not that much of a problem ... most colonies are too big for a single national brood box and if they are laying up in the super then by that point they probably need a second brood box. I run 14 x 12's without queen excluders and often get brood in the first super when the spring build up...

    Oxalic Acid

That 2000 is just the sad people who are on line, on here, on a Monday night at 10.00pm ! There are over 10,000 forum members ... But crowd funding exposed to the wider UK beekeeping community ? It's feasible to raise the required funding ... all the rest that is required .. that's another...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Parrots will eat anything and fruit bats are nearly blind so that's probably the medlars target spreader .... not that many free living parrots in the northern hemisphere though !!
