    The European dark honey bee

Anyone have the book "The European dark honey bee" by Ruttner, Milner, Dews. or as an online version somewhere? I would like to know how this sentence continues, from the j. hybrids section; Hybrids of the dark bee with other races, especially with carniolans are among the most prolific and...

    Single national brood box

Langstroth frame 6750 cells. good queen lays 3000 eggs a day, best 4000. in the old days 1500 eggs. 21X3000=63000 cells But if you dont use exluder the outer frames are not brood, so in a box of 10 there is only 8 brood frames per box and not all frames are fully laid, maybe 75% is more...

Does anyone keep native black honey bees?

Yes, it's not written as capensis, because some Austrian breeders have "maybe" smuggled some eggs/semen. But the lines of "Margret's hive", "Graaf-Reinet" should be of capensis origin.

Does anyone keep native black honey bees?

Look in the archives. Brandstrup stoped sometime in 2000... for some reason, but he still keeps record, just not there - waste of time of his part...? A few other highly ranked danes also has quit updating there.. PS. Sorry, but this thread got hijacked along time ago, so moderator can delete...

B+, Finman is backyard beekeeper= no one to take seriousley. 10-20 hives. The goal can not be the same, he has to make the most of what he has. I have allways wondered how come has he never made a business out of his superior beekeeping, after all he has been doing the backyard thing for 50+...

    Thornes newsletter and small cell

Yes, the TF-group on FB doomed. Every week someone posts a pic of a dead hive asking why it died...? - they come up with all kinds of reasons for ex. freezing, starvation or whatever, but never do they accept the fact that Varroa killed the hive in one way or another, yet the pics of comb is...

Vanishing bees, varroa biggest reason 2016

Previously you have stated that varroa is not a big problem and easy to treat. And now you sound like you want to go treatment free ;)

    Queen Breeding Pedigree

You misunderstood my point. If you have 200 or more hives, you don't do the count for all, you have some knowledge wich have the potential for breeding as you know there pedigrees and what to expect. So you can do the more time bearing controls for maybe 30-100 hives.

    Queen Breeding Pedigree

This is how it works: You count the ones you intend to breed from, both queen and drone lines! Same goes for hygienic behaviour.

    Queen Breeding Pedigree

Logically brood viability is assessed in spring and summer during periods of maximum build-up. The best rating is given if the brood is free of disease even during critical phases. Down-rating is immediate if during appropriate weather or harvest conditions defects show up in the brood...

    Queen Breeding Pedigree

Finman you do buy queens from a queen supplier who take interest in these things, so you do not only depend on good pastures. You preach to buy queens from queen breeders rather than rear own mongrels, you preach the cost of a good queen will return in honey. Conclusion; good queen and good...
