Saving a bee which has stung someone

On where bees do survive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-C77ujnLZo I've seen a few videos where they "get away" or survive, but it's always experienced beeks demonstrating it. Clearly it can be done, if you are good :-) Interestingly, when they do manage it, there seems to be no "follow...

    Ant Stop Bait Station

I have seem "Diatomaceous earth" used, ants won't cross it. The only worry I have with that is our weather washing it away every few days :-) Also you could paint your legs with "Never Wet", I don't think ants will be able to climb it, or slugs for that matter.

    epipen

You could contact your local St. Johns Ambulance team. My wife was a member for many years and they are always keen to help out and learn. They could exhibit (recruit) alongside your talks. Although they may not carry "Epipens" they may have someone who can recognise Anaphlaxis.

    Deformed wing virus

Hi Newbeekeeper :-) Not a stupid question at all. I haven't seen any Deformed Wings in mine, that doesn't mean they don't have some, and I would be distressed if I saw it and want to ask a question like yours. So it's a good question. I think the only "Stupid Question" is the one that is not...

    I took a break...

Hi Trying :-) I will never say anything deliberately disparaging. Nor will I leave if people are "horrid" to me, I will just go on being constructive and positive, learning what I can and helping others if I can. So you being on here is very helpful to me :-) BUT if someone keeps offending...

    SHB arrives in France?

Hang on a mo.... SHB does not "live on bees" in the way that Varroa does. It lives, in the adult, phase "in the hive". Runs around the hive eating stuff. In the egg/larval/pupal phases it lives in the ground, and has to move back to the hive as an adult beetle. They can fly a bit, but have...

Slow Cooker use for candle making - any experiences?

I thought about this and found a couple with a continuously variable dial, but for wax you need to be right at the lower end of the scale, I think beeswax melts somewhere above 62°C and the slow cookers set in °C start a 80, although the dials go down lower. I understand that above 120°C the...

    Brittle foundation

I have heard that "old foundation" can be rejuvenated by "running a hair dryer over it", I mean "warming it up with a hair dryer". I have taken this to imply that any form of warming will probably produce a similar effect. It has also been said that there is "nothing wrong with old foundation"...

    Sudden colony death

I understand that "Bees with heads in cells" can be indicative of starvation. Which sounds likely to me. From what I have read, seen and discussed, the "warm-cold-warm-cold" seems to have cost us a lot of colonies. The warm triggering them to commence build up, committing their immediate...

    Suit or separates?

I'm a "larger gent" and find just a jacket does the job, I got mine from Simon, went there and tried a few on (so that it would fit). Because I'm "cuddly" it seals well below my trouser waistband, so I feel quite safe. I think it needs to be that, you need to feel safe, so you are calm. There...
