    Dimensions of Mike Bush's KTBH

Hi your diagram seems to explain the dimensions fine, the "hight" from the bottom to the top is 12 in as you have shown, perhaps I don't understand the question. :-) If you enter top bar hives into google you will find plenty of plans especially if you try google images. I hope that helps...

    Ne'then !

Hmm, press articles in my humble opinion rarely provide a complete and accurate review. If an article sparks your interest, then explore the points with further reading and formulate your opinion using a variety of sources. You could of course treat articles in the Daily Mail as the whole truith...

    Swarming conundrum

You state "If it's supercedure, I'll obviously just leave them to it. However, if they really do want to swarm, I reckon doing an artificial swarm isn't appropriate, as it would make 2 weak colonies and they have no chance to build up for the Winter. In that case, maybe the best I can do is...

Feed hole. To cover or not?

One of my crownboards was advertised as a coverboard and came with holes in for feeding and two porter bee escapes available for clearing supers. It spends most of its time covered with another piece of wood so it acts as, well I call it a lid! regards Jim

All the Gear No Idea - A Beginners Journey

My first hive had a gabled roof, two house bricks on the floor kept it stable and I was able to put supers in it during inspections later in the year. The bricks kept the roof on in the wind too!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I had what I thought were play cups on Friday, but on looking closer there were eggs in the bottom of some. As the weather is forecasted to get colder and it was warm and sunny today I thought I would check again to see if I now had larvae in royal jelly and queen cells. Most cups remain but...

    AFB NUCs supplied

Bee inspector came to me last week part of the reason he said was that I had bought a nuc last year from a company that had foul brood in their area. (FP) He didn't say they actually had foul brood, didn't go into any more details. Got the impression he was just wanting a quick inspection for...
