2020 harvest bottled in the september. All granulated within six months. April 2022 several jars have started to ferment. Why did this not happen soon after bottling, but wait for so long to misbehave?
A Greek beekeeper came to Solihull Association Apiary a few years ago. In mainland Greece managed 300 colonies. Stood by one hive for a few seconds 'no mama' yes it was queenless. Another hive opened and he quickly opened several several cells all with numerous varroa inside. Are we missing...
when I started some 50 years ago it was all about 'bee space' and bee biology. Regularly took yields of 95lbs+ per hive both in town and on farm locations. Sadly 'scientist' wisdom has intruded and decided that the bees need to learn that different spacing is more beneficial ? So who is right?
An esteemed beekeeper in the last century was accosted by a customer about "lumps" in the honey. Reply:" Madam, that is pollen, it is very nutritious and I have not charged you for it"

This meeting of young beekeepers from all over the world has taken place for several years now. Until it was held this year in the UK it seems to have gone unnoticed. There were 57 young beekeepers from 19 countries, who were given a variety of tasks which were then assessed. These...
sadly bought a shook swarm, six weeks later it swarmed, caught swarm and hived on foundation. Built up well and after six weeks both swarmed again. After two years of them producing nothing but more bees, one colony in poly Langstroth and two frames of bees and brood swarmed. Exceptional forage...
Like everything quality counts, Dulux woodland green Masonry paint in it's several different shades , is excellent. Please paint the inside with one coat to avoid having a grubby unappealing hard to clean surface.
Only one colony out of 8 with bees flying. As I said 'flying purposefully'. All went off in same direction and returned from same direction at rate of about 100 per minute, stopped observing after 40 minutes as I was getting too cold. Not a toilet break!
2 degrees Celsius
Just checked apiary. One colony has a fair number of bees flying in and out quite purposefully, no sign of pollen. Fair weight to hive. Any ideas on what is happening ?
I have the same interest here. A Sikh friend on my allotment buys 20 lbs at a time and takes it to the temple. A Muslim who lives nearby buys several jars whenever his hay fever flares up and says it is the only thing that helps.
Plastic langstroth frames in the experience of myself and a fellow beekeeper cannot be extracted sucessfully radially. The frames tend to twist and comb breaks off.
have used MB plastic frames/ foundation for the last four seasons. Major problem is that the extrusion process in manufacturing these frames is a cheaper method which does not adequately relieve stress in finished product. Three years on and top of frames tend to distort out and downwards...
