Your bees sound like they're in a good situation (better to have far too much stores than not quite enough).
As for stores being too crystallized - I find a light spray of water over the frame encorages the bees to clear the cells. Obviously this can only be done when it's a bit warmer.
Pure turpentine (for beeswax polish) is quite hard / expensive to get hold of. Anyone know of any online or local (midlands) suppliers ? I'm only after a litre or 2

I tried poly nucs this year and needed to use one for a small swarm. I tried the QX slots on the disk and they struggled like mad to get through, most giving up. I put a frame of brood in to keep them in and opened up the entrance. So yes, I think (some of) the QX's are too small.
