Any recommendations for a good be brush?

I use a handful of grass held together with an elastic band when I'm clearing supers. The laggy band stops stray grass falling in the hive and there's always plenty of grass around.

how to make Fondant go hard?

Just made some fondant....what a palaver! Will definitely buy some next year if they need it. Hope the bees like it. Unfortunately it's howling and lashing it down here today and tomorrow so will probably have to wait til Sunday.

    Treatment-Free section

If it was in the Beekeeping Main Section, it might be helpful as we could have different threads for different topics within TF. I think new beekeepers would look at all the sections in the Main section just to get their bearings.

I'm not a fan of segregation - we all need to know what the other camp is thinking/doing or we may never find any common ground or get a chance to convert those of a different opinion to our own. People just need to be encouraged to be polite when voicing their disagreement.

    Label materials

Yes, it was with a laser printer. I Googled it and there was stuff about not putting labels through twice and not letting them get too hot before you use them:unsure:.....no idea if this is true but since using the label setting, I have not had any problems.

    Label materials

Publisher set to print labels and a4labels.com I only put a label on at point of sale as I find the paper labels rub in the box and look awful. I've thought about plasticised labels but am put off by the recycling issues. I find that I need to set the printer setting to "labels" when printing...

Smoker...should it be used at entrance before inspections?

Do people use plain water in the spray - just a normal plant spray bottle?

    Foundationless Frames

Thanks for all your replies. Lots of ideas and things to try. I will go through the supers when I extract and choose the straightest frames to alternate with next year.

Buoyant roadside honey sales since lockdown

That's 60p a jar. C Wynne Jones are 40p a jar if you put an order in for over £200. I get a group together if I'm struggling to get to £200 or collect. I don't know how much p&p is for less than £200 - thier website doesn't say. (ps I don't have any links to C Wynne Jones, it's just I've not...

No apiary meetings at the moment of course but we plan to start them up again ASAP. We have outdoor meetings every month in the summer so message me when things are more normal! We're a chatty bunch and are always happy to have a new audience 😁

That's us. I think about 90% of us are TF and many of us have been for years. The WBKA magazine I mentioned earlier has an article from one of our most experienced members. We never set out to be a mostly TF association, it just happened naturally over the years. We also have members that...

    Foundationless Frames

I would like to hear from anyone who uses foundationless frames. How do you stop the bees building comb across more than one frame? I have tried wax strips and at the moment I am trying triangular strips of wood nailed to the top. Both work well sometimes and other times the bees just build...

"lazy beekeepers brigade" This is unnecessarily judgemental and derogatory. It stifles any discussion we may like to have about different beekeeping techniques. Why don't you just tell us what you do and we can all make up our own minds about the different ways people keep bees. If we all keep...

Can we stop judging each other on our style of beekeeping and get back to discussing beekeeping, please. I would like to hear from anyone who uses foundationless frames. How do you stop the bees building comb across more than one frame? Positive, helpful comments only please. I'm trying to...

    Honey fermenting

Ooooh! Let us know how it goes. I fancy making some mead but there are so many different recipes out there that I don't know where to start.
