our garden regularly gets

-this works the grass after ants normally

- this steals peanuts from the feeders

I my dear old dads transit cargo net to go over the top of the hives instead of using damp proof membrane

That should work right (or was I just lucky last year) ... or are there easier meals in Greater London for these birds

Always had both types of woodpeckers but, touch wood, never had a problem in 35+ years!

The woodpeckers are stabby little B*stards near my Apiaries, one in particular where they started making holes in November, luckily though the one they hit was an empty Nuc which prompted the hasty addition of chicken wire around and on top of each hive, they've gone through the roof in the past which is why I now cover the top too!
I've never seen one on the hives but have seen both Green and spotted (both types) nearby.
I was always under the impression it was the green that was the culprit but having seen on BookFace what looked like a greater spotted boring into a Hive too....

If the covering you've used is thick enough to prevent access then it should be fine I would have thought.
