As a newbeek I find I'm spending prob way too much time wondering what the bees are up to and have found myself regularly going to check/watch their flight! Yes I am a bit obsessed.. I noticed periods where I could see no bees returning with filled pollen sacs and am wondering what it means for the hive development when the pollen stops at this stage.

a single bee doesn't forage for both pollen and nectar at the same time, sometimes it's just the majority of the workforce prioritises one over the other.

Some bees collect nectar, some pollen and some both. The colony needs little pollen unless they have open or emerging brood. Unless the bees are in a monocrop area I would not be overly concerned. It is important that they have pollen when they raise their winter bees, but they usually store a lot of pollen for that. As a matter of interest one of my colonies had three frames 14X12 of pollen stores a couple of weeks ago. They raised 6 frames of brood and it is all gone. They know what they are doing even if we sometimes don't.

Thank you all.. Will be checking at next inspection for state of affairs.
