Initiated a Bailey comb change recently and due to an industrious colony and an enforced two week absence I have a full box of honey/nectar (mostly uncapped). I've not got the required extraction equipment. Yesterday I added a couple of shallows as supers and reversed the boxes (the 14*12 now on the bottom) and left the std deep so the q can continue to lay. Will the bees naturally use up/move the stores?

Thanks

Especially if you bruise the cappings - a bit at a time, I would suggest - if necessary.

If it is granulated it may be slooow.

Thanks RAB

Just a thought but if I give the colony a good smoking will the engorged bees be encouraged to move the stores up or does it make little difference? Don't recall reading anywhere how the bees deposit the honey once the ‘dust/smoke‘ has settled

Cheers

And do you want thymolised syrup in your nice new super of honey?

Haha. No danger of a crop from that lot this year now they've swarmed. They were/are a reserve (now in the form of 2 Q? nucs) for Buckybeast. That's where my honey's coming from.

Just to be clear JBM; I'm not the OP so will shut up.
