Wind and rain again. Just when new queen due to emerge and embark on mating flight.

Seems like it's going to be a re-run of last year.

Sigh.

Cancelled last night the Beginners inspections at the training apiary for midday lots of objections from beginners.."but this morning's forecast says 18c".., at midday it was wind force 7, 13c and heavy showers

next weeks inspection will be interesting, hope we have at least some bees that have not swarmed

Some are real pessimists! The queen needs a couple days with higher temps and less wind to get mated. Emerging queens are not going on mating flights for a few days. Be patient. He mating window can be several weeks, not instantaneously over five days after she has emerged!

RAB, yes I know all is not lost, I was just looking out the window earlier and thinking back to last year- my first full year doing this- when the rain dragged on through pretty much the whole summer & new queen failed to get mated after AS. Despite many hassles somehow managed to harvest 12 lb of honey at the end of the season (which made it all worthwhile) but it felt like ridiculously hard work, and I'm still limping along with only the one colony.

At least pessimists are rarely disappointed. Actually, I'm more of a closet optimist, just trying some reverse psychology on the weather gods...

Phew - this is good news. I'd been led to believe that if a queen didn't get mated in a fortnight, she would be physically incapable thereafter. Thanks for the reassurance.
