I have been out this afternoon collecting a swarm from another beekeepers Apiary, unfortunately it was about 15 feet up a tree and had been in situ for five days.
After some interesting time spent up a ladder and some amateur pruning I removed the swarm placing it into my skep.
Having arrived home I have placed it into a National hive, I saw the beautiful dark, unmarked, but mated Queen enter the hive, very nice swarm, large in size.
I have fed them some sugar and added a frame of eggs etc from one of my Nucleus hives to keep them here.
The Apiary they are from does have some rather nice but very sticky bees.
I do enjoy collecting swarms, one of my favourite parts of beekeeping would have to be hiving a swarm, from a slow trickle to a torrent of bees entering the new home.
I did consider posting this in 'what have you done in your Apiary today' but it was not my Apiary.
Alas not all good, I lost a beautiful queen from a Nuc box, sealed queens cells found. (how did I miss them?) The nuc scored 5 perfect fives on the last inspections. (OK they should not get a five if they swarm, but they are such gentle bees)
