I am running out of supers, but i have plenty of brood boxes. One of my hives is on brood and half, is it feasible to take the frames out of the shallow box and put into a deep box? so that i can utilise the super elsewhere.

Buy another super. By the time you've messed about dealing with all the brace comb they will build under the shallow frames, you would happily hand over £30 to never have to do it again.

I'd put a 2nd brood box under the first.

They will move down and back fill with honey eventually. Or if you are in a hurry put a queen excluder under the super (making sure queen is below)

If you have a flow and good temperatures you could be a bit more brutal and put the new brood between the old brood and super, it will swiftly pull them up into the new box but might be a bit too mich for them unless they are a strong colony.

Just use the brood box with brood frames + foundation as a super. It will of course be heavy when full and will need to be extracted tangentially, but will then give you a full brood box of freshly drawn empty brood combs for future use. Works well on a flow and preferably in warmer weather if the hive is strong.

good drawn brood comb is a very valuable resource when splitting colonies or making up nucs

Ok thanks everyone, i'll order some deep frames and foundation so if necessary i can use a spare bb as a super then I'll actually be prepared if I've used my last empty super. (perhaps i should start weight training in readiness)

If the weather was being kinder i may have tried a different method as suggested.

Actually everyone should have spare frames, foundation and supers ON HAND.

And dinna forget the right frame nails either.

Brood boxes are often used as honey supers. I have commercial boxes which are perhaps on the large side for doing so, but in recent times got poly langstroths as replacements and a brood box gets filled practically as quickly as a super.
