I've been wanting to do a shook swarm, but because of the size of colonies I could not fit the vast amount of bees into 1 brood box(3 supers),but I needed to change the frames as they were old comb.
So what I did was but a new brood box and foundation above the queen excluder to let them draw it out,a week later(yesterday)checked and they had drawn it out nicely They had started filling with nectar.I then removed the queen from old brood box,and then removed the old brood box,put new brood in its place and placed queen onto the frames.I know it will take a while for her to start laying, the bees will have to move some nectar stores about to give her room.I also put queen excluder on bottom to stop her absconding. There are plenty of stores.
I always worry when I've done something off my own back in case I've messed up.
I surpose only time will tell.
