Price of honey

I know Honey sale price has been discussed before but as it looks like we will not be extracting so much honey this year, will this shortage affect its market value?

Supply and demand affects the price of all other commodities but I bet we will still sell our liquid gold for the same price as usual.

Food for though! Pig meat (probably beef etc as well) is held back by wholesalers when there is a glut in huge chillers to maintain and even artificially inflate price, although this is never passed on to the farmer.

Not extracting much?

After a catastrophic start to the year, they're motoring fast at the moment. One of ours has just had the 4th super added. I was out adding supers yesterday evening. We will be extracting at the weekend....

I've been selling to people on my allotment (that I like) for £4/lb and £5 elsewhere, but marked up at £5.50.

when i started out a few years ago i was told anything under £5 is insulting bees and the work you put in yourself. I never have a problem selling mine for £5 a lb, i do the smaller 12oz hex jars at £4.50 and they also sell well.

I had a local shop telling me their problems of sourcing local honey, but they then went on to say that they wanted it at £4lb. explained that this was why they were having problem sourcing it!

the trouble is that around cornwall everyone can sell from the door step so why take a cut if you only have a few hives. Admittedly as and when i have a few more hives and more honey to sell then it may be that the easier option is to sell in bulk, but at the moment i sell out of what i have and presumably others in the area do as well because the shop keeper says that is the cheapest he can find it and he doesnt think it is very good quality

we have a couple of commercial beeks selling to shops at 2.50 a lb. Hard to compete with that.
