Hi all I’ve been thinking about setting up a bee hive for the last year now just as a hobby nothing to big (to help the bees in our area of Manchester)
I did a little bit way back in the 80s with my granddad on his allotment he had 4 hives i remember little bits he told me not much so I joined a beekeepers ' association and I have to take the beginners course great I thought get some firsthand experience but frist ones all booked the next one it does not start till the end of September and I was about to preorder a Nuc of buckfast bees and a British standard hive but I can’t do anything with the association till the end of September
So I was thinking of setting one up till I can get in in September someone told me it’s better to have 2 hives than just one hive is this true or is it better to start with one
please dont laugh if I ask some weird questions (I have watched a couple YouTube videos)
Thanks all Jason
(Ps) any advice would be greatly appreciate ie are they the right bees .should I wait till September and don’t rush in to quickly I just don’t know

Welcome! Disappointing that you’re too late for the beginners’s course. Get Haynes Manual of beekeeping from Amazon, join BBKA so as to receive their monthly mag, subscribe to Beecraft mag - both have beginners’ pages. Does your local Association have a club apiary with regular meetings?
