Moving Hive

I would like to develop my aipery which means moving a hive and a nuc about 20 yards . What is the best way to go about it.

I would wait until after xmas when they are clustered.
Pop an obsticle in front of the entrance so they know they have moved house.
 
Moving Your Hive - You can move up to 3ft at a time and they won't get lost. If you wait until deep winter then you can move them where you want to without too much concern.
Alternatively take them 3 miles away and then after a couple of weeks bring them back and place them in theior new position.

Thanks lads for your advise, might do the 3mile move as l have got permission from a local farmer to leave the hives there a long a l want.
