I have a hopelessly Q- colony that I want to combine with a Q+ swarm a couple of hundred yards away

Assuming I use the newspaper method which should take a couple of days, will the moved bees then reorientate to their new home without having to faff around with branches over the entrance etc ?

if your moving the queenless on to the queenrite then yes just do the paper marriage, by time they emerge all should be good

I recently cocked up one of these. I didn't seat the upper box properly and the upper bees had an exit. A lot of them left and didn't come back. They are not on the stand in the old location and no dead bees there, so I am hoping they originally went back, but begged their way into other nearby hives. I guess I may have lost them. The brood seems to have survived in both boxes of the merge though, so not a total loss
