Well it all started with a tape measure malfunction. I'm moving onto commercial hives mainly due to cost and they are easier to make than nationals. I managed to make some supers that where 440x460 rather than 460x460. So I had the brainwave of cutting them down further and making four mating nuc 230x230 that I could place above a QE and when I wanted to transfer a QC into each of them they would be ready charged with bees and I would move them into the mating apiary.
But then I had a beer. Why move them of the parent hive. I've been using Horsley boards for years why not construct a four way horsley board so I can then leave them on the hive until they are mated then do with them as I want.
Would this work? The only issue I can see is that I would have an entrance on the same side as the main entrance.
