I presently have 3 hives superceduring. I have two hives on one site. one is at 22 days after hatching and the other hatched 10/11th july. I am hoping that what I saw today for the first time ever was a queen and "attending" bees off on a mating flight while I was mowing a nearby lawn. I heard the sound of buzzing first and looked over to see a small very loose rugby shaped collection of bees moving across the lawn in the air and move across the road. There could have been about 100 or so bees. Is that what I saw?

From what I've heard/read that sounds about right i think. Lucky you:.) I'm yet to see a swarm flying.

Yes it sounds about right for a mating flight.
Hope she was successful.

Hi Burren,
Our bees are on the same time line when it comes to emerging queens. Mine emerged 11th July - two emergency QC. I hope I saw mine come back from a mating flight 1625 yesterday, but I did not see her leave. First day they were hardend enough to do one. What time of the day did you see yours set off and what was the temp.

Hi Beeno
It was 12.30 and getting quite warm 18 deg. It was really great to see especially as today it is raining cats and dogs! thanks all for the reassurance.

Hi Burren,
I am on tomorrow for the second mating flight don't you think? It's supposed to be a lovely day which is hard to believe at the moment. Will keep you posted if it happens.

mine is on the same timeline to 10th july just hoping she mates ...fingers crossed

Great! Lets see if they get mated properly. Not so good this year, but we can live in hope!

Hi Burren, prana vallabha, PH and everyone else on the same time line,
Checked my nuc today in case I missed the eggs on the 26th and I did. Larvea seen so just have to wait and see if she's ok or a drone layer! If it's down to the weather she should be ok. Good luck to you two. PH is already up and running!

yesterday too wet to check, rained all day. If it stays dry today am desperate to check one hive.

beeno, see new post to see how that went!

Just seen it. Meant to say I wish you better as well.
