SWMBO likes to have lilies in the house. The ones with the large orange anthers, that release the pollen that stains the carpet. If I collect the anthers and freeze them, would they make a tasty snack for the ladies in the Spring? I can't imagine that they would be poisonous, but how knows?

They also stink, are mainly sold for funerals so have death as a memory nudger, and the pollen stains permanently. The first wife was a florist and she hated them for the reasons given. I do too. I won't have them in the house.

Cheers! No cats in our house though. Our new neighbour has two, which presumably explains what's happened to the long-tailed tits and the sparrows.

Where we are the long tailed tits are only passing visitors. A big family group will turn up once or twice during the winter, spend 5mins at the feeders and then be gone, they don't stick around.

Ever heard of that happened in China with the sparrows? Makes for interesting reading.

We used to have two gangs of hedge sparrows in the village, one at the top end and one round where I am. The ones near us have gone, which is a pity, because they're a happy-sounding noisy group.

most of the issues with Spodgies are down to modern buildings, no gaps where they can get in to nest, I've a pair that nests in my house every year ;)
