I see that LIDL are due to have a Wood Burning Iron in on 15/8 - apparently intended for that old craft of Pyrography which still flourishes in some European countries. It strikes me that while less quick than a Branding Iron, I can use it to inscribe my postcode on both hive exteriors and Topbars and it might serve as a deterrent to theft. It's priced at only £8.99 so worth a try.

I have used an electric soldering iron to burn initials into hive parts. A bit slow but easy enough to do. Will have a look at this item though to see if it is possibly better.

I have one made for me by local ironworks -£20.

It needs to get hot to be of any use, so for hives not in use a nice fire and away I go. But what about the hives full of bees - any ideas?
(and no i don't want to make a small fire nearby as they are not on my land)
Blowtorches don't get it hot enough.

I made my own years ago :) Initials cut out of gauge plate and welded to the handle/stem of a paint scraper . Cheap and cheerful !

Yes despite being invented in this county the Bessemer process has long gone East.

Meant local blacksmith who calls himself Iron Works.

Typical, I buy a pretty much the same damn thing in Canada, buy a step down transformer for it and B-@s+}{d Lidl come along and do it for £8.99!

Might buy one for the sheer hell of it.
