Slow Food

Sentiments being expressed here are very much in keeping with an organisation called "Slow Food", and I believe the fish scandal is one item they have campaigned on. It's an international organisation with national and regional divisions. I would definitely recommend anyone here checking them out and getting along to a local event. Here in Worcestershire we have a monthly event. Next one is an evening with an artisan cider maker :coolgleamA:

Last nights Fish Fight programme entitled Shark Bait saw chef Gordon Ramsey investigating the shark fin trade. The scale of this practice was astounding. I mean astounding. Following that the petition site found here http://www.fishfight.net/ experienced a surge of new petition signers. Add to that the great Stephen Fry tweeting to ask for more support toward the campaign and the site again surged and took the petition numbers right over the half a million mark. This all achieved in just over a week. Thank you to anyone who signed from here and thank you also for the points raised. I will place the links to all programmes under this post in case you missed them.

http://www.channel4.com/search/?q=fish+fight this link has all programmes

Not wishing to pee on any one's bonfire, but the whole food industry and consumers needs a good kick up the @rse.
Consumers for their complacency and ignorance as to how and what's served up to them; the FI's arrogance for putting $/£ before anything else, knowing we'll just lap it up. The only real way to hurt these guys is to not buy the products enmass but that's not likely to happen as conscience pricking will have little effect.

Again it's very laudable Gordan's concern for the sharks but what about turtles, fugu -blow fish, etc that are slaughtered for just some portion and the rest discarded but if people want it man will supply it, at what ever the cost to the given species and environment. There are some truly horrific practices out there Shame on us
