Hi,

Please can you tell me how long (on average) it takes to clear a super with the crown board and porter bee escapes?

Thank you!!!

I normally put on the afternoon before, and take off the next morning, sometimes your left with one or two bees

I no longer use porter escapes for the reasons given above ..
The polyhedral escapes sold by Thornes and others are much more effective and I now use these exclusively. By the correct arrangement of screws in the crown board these are completely removable and washable.
I've cleared a 2 super stack overnight with one of these.. all bar a few stragglers (which you always seem to get no matter what).

Thanks everyone!

I was hoping to put the bee escapes on this evening but it is raining here fairly heavily. Will I get away with it, or should I wait until tomorrow?

Thanks

if you brush them off frame by frame about 15 minutes :)

my Porter holes worked fine last year but this year they seem to have learned a trick or 2. Time to make up some proper clearer boards in the shed this winter.

Thanks everyone!

Just be quick and get them on - had to do it with some of my hives Monday

fishing umbrellas are good in that situation, if not, the other half holding a normal brolley will do

Tried three

I tried three methods at same time at end of spring.

Round 8way, porter and rhombus.

Rhombus was done in a few hours, round overnight and swapped porter to clear quicker.

Rhombus won for me.

.
Shaking is good so that combs are warms and easier to extract at once than cooled to next day.
