I wouldn't advise you to use those hives.
New beekeeper short lugs and gloves is asking for disaster imo.

Knowing what I know now I would start again with poly Langstroth.
You can get bees on Lang frames fairly easily these days.
From what i want from bees and if i had read a little more on the rose hive several year's back that is the method i would have taken.

Never say never though i might do similar with national brood boxes..

Sorry to disagree, but it's likely that more beekeepers the world over use short lugged frames than long lugged frames.

I started off with Jumbo Langstroth and, although I wouldn't recommend these hives to everybody because not all bees need that much space, I'd certainly recommend using Langstroth or Commercial. I wear gloves too, because they keep propolis off my hands.

Langstroth for me

I started on Langstroths..all medium boxes. Positives - easy self build, box and frame commonality etc. Negatives - bit of hassle transferring bees and brood from bought-in National Nuc boxes. I also like the idea of the Rose system though.

I went from TBH to Jumbo Langs.. No lifting needed for inspections..

Neutrogena unscented cream rubbed into hands 30 mins before inspections ensures propolis is easily removed..

well judging by a lot I see at restaurants nowadays - spreading food all over your face

I have recently joined the hipster beard bandwagon, and I must say that a beard adds complication to the eating process. Apologies if it was I who put you off your food at the restaurant that day, but rest assured I'm re-learning to eat tidily...

you get used to it - the up side is, if you spill your soup your shirt and tie doesn't get dirty - and it quickly disappears into your beard :D

To quote my dad "All these bloody skinny kids walking about with big bushy beards. They look like lumberjacks! I doubt they could pick an axe up let alone use one!"
