After a few problems beginning of this year I have finally put my hive together :)

I have put some lemongrass oil in the front hoping to catch a swarm but I think it maybe a little bit new for that. This time last year I had found 2 swarms but had no hive or training now I am ready no swarms.

Two swarms collected at the weekend and a large prime swarm moved into my bait box last Tuesday so there are still some about - you never know. Probably not practical for you but you would probably find the hive easier to work if there was space to get behind it.

Good luck!

Rich

Hi Rich, the hive is only there to try and catch a swarm I will be moving it to its permanent location once I have caught one or purchased a nuc whichever comes first.

its amazing how things just happen, after making a 6 frame nuc, I had a call from a day tech (Im a night tech/pest control) about a swarm at a station, I collected it and its been settled 2 weeks now,

you never know, yours may attract something

Do you know if there is another beekeeper nearby? If there is you could leave orange peel in your garden and stuff. Even if they swarm into your garden you can then put them into the hive.

Why dont you use a couple of old brood combs-these are the best bait for attracting swarms by far. If you dont have any you may be able to get some off a beekeeper at your local association or some here on the forum. I've attracted 2 swarms this year just from bait hives with old combs in.

I concur.

Thanks for the offer enrico, Taylan as been able to help me out :)

Thank you Taylan for the swarm, made it back Friday despite one or two floods bee's seem to have settled in nicely. I gave them some sugar syrup on Sunday all looked good threw the glass quilt I will leave them alone for a couple of weeks now apart from the odd feed if this weather does not pick up.

I did get a chance to watch them yesterday and was amazed at the different amount of pollens coming back.
