I've been lurking/reading for a week and thought it was time I stepped up and introduced myself.

I am a 56 year old bee less newbie from Poole in Dorset. I have approached the local BKA and have met with one of the members, and visited a hive for inspection.

I have considered becoming a beekeeper quite a few times, but was recently advised to look into beekeeping for therapeutic reasons, as I suffer from severe PTSD.

I am going to the local BKA apiary this weekend for there hive inspection meeting to see how things go, but I have already made my mind up to take up the hobby.

Well, that's me :D

Cheers!

Welcome, and good luck at the weekend.

Let us know how you get on :)

Hello and :welcome:

I feel you. I was diagnosed myself with PTSD around 8 years ago and find animals of all kinds really help me to ground myself. The bees especially, sitting and watching them really puts me in a clear mind space.

I did find that the anxiety side of my condition was tested to the max on my first solo inspection but the sense of achievement afterwards (which you will know doesn't come too often) far outweighed that.

I hope it all goes well for you and always got an open inbox if you need a chat/vent.

Rob

:welcome: To the forum Noddy. I / We find that when you have an open colony in front of you the world is not there, you have xxxx thousand bees around your head who are doing their thing regardless of you, it is stressing at times, and if you can walk away and have a cuppa or whatever and THINK, and return to carry on you're winning.

:welcome: Again to world of beekeeping. Stick with it. The bees have been doing their thing for many years and we haven't wiped them out yet.

PS. just reread the OP. When you are at the apiary meeting ask any and all questions no matter if you think they are"silly", us beeks can and do talk bees for hours given the chance so take advantage.
